Massive Bureaucratic Reshuffle; Patna Gets New DM

Patna: March 16, 2008

In one of the massive reshuffles undertaken within the ruling NDA government, the Nitish administration on Sunday transferred 29 District Magistrates (DM), including the DM of Patna Dr. B. Rajendra, and over 65 senior IAS officials and Divisional Commissioners sending a shockwave in the bureaucratic circle.

As per a circular issued by the State Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar okayed the transfers of several senior bureaucrats – a step seen by many as a preemptive move in anticipation of the Lok Sabha elections.

Dr. Rajendra, who is being replaced by Bhojpur DM Jitendra Kumar Sinha, will now serve as the Director of the State Agriculture Department.

Besides Patna, other districts to have new DMs are Lakhisarai, Jamui, Aurangabad, Muzaffarpur, Nawada, Sitamarhi, Khagaria, Kaimur, Sheohar, Araria, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Bhojpur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Gaya, Saharsa, Buxar, Banka, West Arwal, Katihar, Madhubani, Siwan, Nalanda, Rohtas, Munger and Samastipur.

Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner and CEO Rana Awadhesh was sent to Jamui as its DM. He was replaced by West Champaran DM Mihir Kumar Singh.
