Suicide or Murder? Police Investigates Student's Death

Patna: March 17, 2008

The Patna police on Monday recovered the dead body of 21-year old Saloni from the Adarsh Girls' Hostel on Boring Canal Road under Buddha Colony police station raising the suspicion of foul play though the police are not ruling out suicide as the cause of her death.

During the preliminary investigation of Saloni's room, the police found blood stains everywhere, including a blood-stained towel indicating sucide by hanging from the ceiling, police said.

As reported, Saloni, the daughter of Harihar Prasad of Sarkari Bazaar in Chhapra district, had been doing her BCA from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) while staying at the Adarsh Girls' Hostel. She appeared to be distraught when on Saturday her exam results came out, residents of the hostel said.

Her body was sent to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for post mortem, Buddha Colony police station in-charge Gaurishankar Singh said.

The autopsy results should be able to shed some light on the cause of Saloni's death, officials said.
