Patna: March 19, 2008

In the never-ending war of attrition between various gangs in the state capital, criminals in Patna City area on Wednesday gunned down rival gang member Deena Gope while in Kankarbagh, a 30-year old man was shot to death by unidentified killers.

In the first incident near a railway crossing in Patna City under Malsalami police station, criminals showered notorious criminal Deena Gope with bullets while going somewhere on his Gypsy.

He was rushed to the Nalanda Medical College Hospital but died before arriving there.

The killing of Gope created a riot-like situation in Malsalami area where his supporters attacked the police station. A police driver was hurt in the incident.

Incidentally, this was the same Deena Gope who in November of 2006 shot and killed Patna City steel and iron trader Vijay Bharatiya. A professional criminal, he was also accused in over two dozens cases of murder, extortion, and kidnapping.

Gope was released from Patna's Beur Jail just a couple of months ago, officials said.

In the second incident, 30-year old Devi Kumar of Postal Park area in Kankarbagh was passing through the Kumhar Toli on Wednesday night when he was ambushed by 3-4 youths. Fires were shot and Devi was hit one time in his waist.

He was taken to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where he died during his treatment.

Police are trying to find motive in Devi Kumar's killing while also trying to identify his killers.
