Dutch Tourist Claims Robbery, Assault

Photo by Shashi UttamPirbahore police station in Patna on Thursday faced a piquant situation when a Netherlands national visiting Patna complained of being attacked by a group of young men and then robbed though during the cross examination, he failed to name the hotel he was staying in.

Identified as Melchad Jip (sp?), the man walked into the Pirbahore police station and said he was in Patna after getting married to a girl from Patna City in Delhi. On Thursday, he took a rickshaw to go to Patna City but stopped at Hotel Shalimar in Sabzi Bagh area.

At the hotel, he was refused an accommodation leading to an argument an assault on him by the hotel employees and other people in the area.

Later, in course of the interrogation, the Dutch changed his story about his marriage and said he had gone to the Sabzi Bagh area looking for alcohol.

The police are investigating the case.

Town DSP Sanjay Singh said the Dutch embassy would be contacted on Friday and arrangements would be made to send him to Delhi.
