Bhojpuri film star Manoj Tiwari, in an attempt to promote goodwill between Biharis and Marathis in Maharashtra, resorted to Gandhigiri at Rajendra Nagar Railway Terminal in Patna on Monday and handed out red roses to Bihari and Maharashtrian passengers on Mumbai-bound Lokmanya Tilak Superfast train.
Going from one bogie to another, Tiwari who has appeared in dozens of Bhojpuri films and has sung a number of Bhojpuri songs, gave away fresh roses to the travelers saying he hoped for an end to the latest anti-Bihari sentiments in Maharashtra and restoration of goodwill between the two states.
Later at a press conference, Tiwari said he was wrongly accused by some news channel that he was taking the side of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray.
"I'll die for my Bihari and UP brothers in other states and any suggestion that I was supporting Raj Thackeray is simply wrong," Tiwari said adding the whole issue was purely political and though he was not a politician, he would not say or do anything that would put hundreds of thousands of Biharis currently living in Mumbai.
Condemning the attacks on Biharis in Maharashtra, Tiwari said that some people were jealous of the growing popularity of Bhojpuri films in Maharashtra.
"We were doing business between Rs. 40 lakh to Rs. 1.5 crore in Mumbai alone. However, after the recent anti-Bihari wave in the state, the business has nosedived to Rs. 10-15 lakh," the actor said.
