Beautician Shahnaz Seeks CBI Probe in Son's Death
Patna: March 25, 2008
Internationally recognized beauty expert Shahnaz Hussain, during a press conference at Hotel Maurya in Patna on Tuesday appealed to the government to initiate a CBI probe into her son's January 6 suicide saying Sameer was not mentally disturbed but was left with no choice but to end his life in such tragic way.
Shahnaz, whose beauty product empire runs in several crores and in many countries, earlier met with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his home on Tuesday and asked him to order a CBI investigation into her son's death saying the situation surrounding his suicide indicated foul play and only a high-level probe could bring the truth to the surface.
"The Chief Minister is a very decent person and has a sense of justice that makes me hopeful of finding the real truth behind my son's tragic death," she said.
Shahnaz also denied any rumor of her son being angry following her second marriage to noted entrepreneur R. K. Puri as suggested by Sameer's father-in-law and advocate Mahfooz Alam.
"He was a little depressed after he found out that his wife was inflicted with tuberculosis and the doctors had prohibited him from getting closer to her for at least two years. He was taking anti-depressants drugs for several years but he quit taking his medicines 4-5 months ago at the insistence of his wife," the beauty magnate said adding her son's father-in-law also created a situation when he was not allowed to talk to her for weeks.
Earlier, Shahnaz visited the grave of her son at a cemetery in Phulwarisharif. She also ruled out any suggestion to pay a visit to her late son's in-laws indicating some hostility against them.
As reported previously, 34 year old Sameer died on January 6 of this year after he jumped off the balcony of a third-floor apartment of his father-in-law on Exhibition Road.
