CAG Report Alarming but not Shocking; Says the CM

Patna: March 27, 2008

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, following damning reports earlier released by the office of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) revealing massive irregularities in state expenditures, described the revelation as alarming saying the government would take up CAG's recommendations and install measures to minimize such aberrations.

At a press meeting in Patna on Thursday, Kumar said the matter would be referred to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for its review and the government would follow up on its suggestions to prevent such irregularities from taking place in future.

"This is the first CAG report under the NDA government and while being alarming, the report is certainly not shocking," said the Chief Minister.

On Thursday, the CAG released its report stating Bihar had incurred a loss of in excess of Rs. 607 crore due to irregularities in payment and massive misappropriation of state funds in the fiscal year of 2006-07.
