UPA's Anti-Bihar Stand too obvious; Says Modi

Patna: March 29, 2008

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Saturday accused the UPA government of treating Bihar in a step-motherly fashion on issues like electricity, public distribution system, and ethanol policies saying the Central government's attitude towards Bihar was so transparently discriminatory and biased that anyone could see through it.

Modi, who was speaking at a meeting of Chief Ministers of NDA-controlled states in Delhi on Saturday, said the new policies unveiled by the Sonia-led UPA government related to electricity and food rationing, and an extremely unfavorable restriction on ethanol research and production had unmasked the true face of this government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The meeting was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of former Deputy Prime Minister and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L. K. Advani.

The Deputy Chief Minister appealed to all NDA parliamentarians to continue to expose the UPA government for its anti-NDA-led government policies.

Bihar is entitled to 1169 MW of electricity from the Central quota but all it gets is between 680 and 750 MW, Modi said adding the UPA government also conveniently ignored the devastation caused by last year's flood in Bihar by failing to help with even one penny.

"When we decided to revive the closed sugar mills in Bihar and even were approached by companies like Reliance and Bharat Petroleum, the Center changed the rules of the game in the middle of the play by imposing a ban on production of ethanol. It is quite clear that the UPA does not want to see Bihar or other states ruled by the NDA developed," said Modi.
