BJP to Launch Agitation to 'Expose' UPA Government
Patna: March 30, 2008
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kiran Ghai in Patna on Saturday said her party would launch a nationwide agitation against the UPA government for failing to check prices of essential commodities from skyrocketing.
"The party that came into power by promising to make the lives of ordinary people easier and keep the inflation in check is now sucking the life out of the voters. What is even more shameful is that even the UPA government is admitting it has failed to check the prices of essential items," Ghai said.
"This, however, is not new. Each time the Congress has come into power, the country has suffered immensely. We intend to expose the failure of the UPA government by launching a nationwide stir," she said adding the writing off of farmers' loans and presenting a populist budget had no meaning when the government has failed to contain the prices of most essential items.
BJP leaders also blasted the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi for her comments on the report earlier released by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) that revealed a loss of Rs. 607 crore in Bihar due to irregularities in payment and massive misappropriation of state funds in the fiscal year of 2006-07.
"Rabri Devi needs to study the report more carefully before criticizing the NDA government. Most irregularities have taken place in the previous RJD government and the Nitish government should initiate high level probes in bitumen and food-for-work schemes that led the state to the brink of bankruptcy," BJP leader Lalita Singh Yadav said.
