Bihar Victim of Conspiracy by Lalu, Rabri: Modi
Patna: March 30, 2008
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, during a press conference in Patna on Sunday, accused the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders and husband-wife duo of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi of conspiring to ensure the Center did not release the Rs. 2,156 crore package deal for flood victims in Bihar that the Union government itself had determined as damage caused by last year's flood.
"It has been more than six months since a team of Union Ministers visited Bihar and saw the devastation caused by the flood with its own eyes. It then ascertained the damage to the tune of Rs. 2, 156 crore but Bihar is yet to see a single paisa in the form of flood relief from the Central government," Modi said.
Taking a direct shot at Lalu and Rabri, the Deputy Chief Minister said that if the RJD leaders were so influential in the UPA government, why the state was still waiting to receive flood relief package from it.
"For 15 years, these people systematically destroyed the state and now that the NDA government is cleaning up the mess left by the RJD, the same leaders are having hard time digesting it," Modi said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also blamed the duo for the Central government's reluctance in increasing the quota for kerosene and rationing for Bihar.
"As far as the recent increase in central grants are concerned; they were not initiated by the UPA government but were the results of the recommendations made in the 12th Finance Commission that, in turn, that was formed during the NDA government in Delhi," Modi said.
