Abducted Boy Returns Home in Phulwarisharif
Patna: March 31, 2008
Much to the relief of the district administration, 13-year old Nishant, the son of contractor Surendra Kumar who was reported kidnapped last Friday from near his home in Phulwarisharif, mysteriously returned to his home on Monday just as mysteriously as he had disappeared.
Talking to the police officials, Nishant told them that he was abducted by a group of people while returning home to the Birla Colony from a nearby playground where he had been playing cricket with his friends.
"They forced me into a Maruti van and then took me somewhere on a train. Today they set me free under police pressure," Nishant said.
The police, however, is struggling to buy into his story.
"There are just too many unanswered questions in the case and we are trying to get to the bottom of it," said Phulwarisharif DSP Dilnawaz Ahmed.
Earlier, raids were conducted in Birla Colony, Danapur, Dhanarua and a number of other places but the police failed to recover Nishant. An FIR was also lodged by the victim's father against three men including Rintu Singh of Phulwarisharif, a man with extensive criminal background.
On Monday, before the news of the sudden return of the boy broke, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shyam Rajak raised the issue of Nishant's abduction at the state Assembly causing a noisy protest from other Opposition leaders.
