Police Constable Found Dead in VIP Area

Patna: March 31, 2008

The police in Patna on Monday found the body of one of their own men, constable Ram Murti Rai, from a vacant government quarter in the VIP area on Strand Road under Sachivalaya police station.

As reported, Rai was living in the Quarter Number 14 with another constable identified as Anu Bhagat.

On Monday, some people in the area felt a foul odor coming out of the vacant bungalow. When the police checked the building, they found the decaying body of Rai and sent it for post mortem.

The other occupant of the house Anu Bhagat, however, is nowhere to be found.

Attempts are being made to locate Bhagat and the cause of Rai's death. Foul play has not been ruled out.

Officials said the house was previously occupied by a Patna High Court Judge but had been empty since last 6-7 months.
