Leaders and activists of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (U) in Patna on Friday took out a massive joint rally to express their anger with the Congress-led UPA government at the Center for failing to but a brake on the skyrocketing prices of food items and other essential commodities.

The NDA leaders, at around 10:00 am, gathered at the Birchand Patel Marg and formed a long human chain in a sign of protest against the UPA government. Later they moved their demonstration to Dak Bungalow Crossing where they shouted anti-Congress and anti-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) slogans while carrying placards and banners.

Blaming the Central government for refusing to step in and put a stop on the rising prices of food items, JD-U and BJP state presidents Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Radha Mohan Singh respectively demanded the recall of the Congress-led administration saying the prices have continued to rise since the UPA came into power in 2004.

A delegate of BJP leaders led by the Health Minister Nand Kishore Yadav also met with Governor R. S. Gavai and handed him a memo demanding the removal of the UPA government.

Later on, JD-U leaders and workers also burnt the effigies of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other UPA ministers.
