CM Defends Ouster of Tantia Constructions
Patna: May 5, 2008
In a candid admission of the Tantia debacle, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, at a press conference following his weekly Janata Durbar on Monday, said the people of Patna would have to endure a messy monsoon season one more time since none of the projects given to the Tantia Constructions was completed or even half-completed by the company.
"We want development in the infrastructure but we also do not want them to think that we are so desperate that we will allow them to get away with shoddy, substandard works," Kumar said adding the city, despite the government's best intentions, would have to undergo a nasty monsoon season that would be no better than the previous ones.
Defending the decision of the State Road Construction department to kick out Tantia Constructions Limited from Bihar, the Chief Minister said the company was in clear violation of the contract terms and despite several warnings issued to it, it failed to get its acts straight.
Kumar said he would personally review the works done by the Tantia Constructions and would take appropriate legal actions if needed.
Meanwhile, the Tantia Constructions has already sought legal intervention in overturning the state's decision and allowing it to complete various projects in Bihar.
The Vice President of the company Ramesh Khetan said the state did not give any opportunity to the company officials to defend themselves and took the decision to kick it out in a manner that would hurt the reputation of the company.
