Wanted Maoist Leader Arrested in Patna

The police in Patna on Friday succeeded in nabbing top Naxalite leader Ram Pravesh Baitha from near Golghar under Gandhi Maidan police station. Baitha had been evading arrest for several years despite carrying a reward of Rs. 50,000 on his head, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar said.
Baitha, a top Communist Party of India – Marxist leader and a member of the so-called 'Triple-U' outfit sworn to create chaos in Uttar Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarkhand, was taken into custody after the police learnt he was holding a meeting with other members of his outlawed organization near Golghar on Friday.
While no arms were recovered during the raid, the police seized Maoist literature where they were holding the meeting at, officials said.
With his involvement in over three dozen crimes mostly committed in the northern parts of the state including the 2005 deadly attack in Madhuban in East Champaran district and 2007 assault on a Hajipur police battalion, Baitha is a political science graduate from RDS College in Muzaffarpur.
At age 40, Baitha is considered to be one of the most dreadful Maoist terrorists who started his career in crime just little over a decade ago.
