CM Calls for Unity to Rebuild Bihar
Patna: May 10, 2008
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while addressing the guests at the Bhartiya Nritya Kala Mandir in Patna on Saturday to mark the 150th anniversary of the Independence War of 1857, said that just like people of different religions had come together to gain freedom from British rule, people of Bihar needed to join hands to rebuild the state and restore its lost glories.
"Brave men and women of India belonging to Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Christian communities fought valiantly with the British to bring freedom to the nation. Today Bihar needs the same kind of unity and dedication to bring peace and prosperity to the state," said the Chief Minister.
Kumar said Biharis made valuable contributions in the freedom movement but many of the heroes from the state were either forgotten or never got the recognition that they richly deserved. "We have plans to make films on these unsung heroes so the entire world would know about their sacrifices and their undying desire for freedom," he said.
The event also featured several cultural shows highlighting some historic moments from the freedom movement.
The leaders and the guests also observed a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs.
