Red Alert in Bihar following Jaipur Serial Blasts

Patna: May 13, 2008

Bihar Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anil Sinha, following the serial blasts in Jaipur on Tuesday that left over 80 people dead, ordered a red alert in the state with heightened security at all religious establishments including Patna's Mahavir Temple where extra security officials have been deployed to thwart any terrorist attempt.

Prominent government buildings, railway stations, and Patna Airport are also being under close vigil given the fact that a number of infiltrators from Pakistan and Bangladesh have been nabbed in the state in the past, officials in Patna said.

"We are closely watching the developments in both Jaipur and New Delhi and are taking precautionary measures to ensure peace is maintained in the state and any effort to bring chaos in Bihar is met with swift, forceful response," Sinha said.

As reported in the national media, eight powerful blasts within a span of 15 minutes took place in Jaipur on Tuesday night killing about 80 people while sending twice as many with serious injuries to hospitals.

Bangladesh-based Harkat ul Jehadi Islamia or the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyeba are said to be behind the Jaipur blasts.

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Bihar have blamed the Congress-led UPA government for going soft on terrorists and turning away attention from the real problem by scrapping anti-terrorist acts like POTA.
