Computer Shop Owner Faked Burglary: Police

Patna: May 14, 2008

The police in Patna on Wednesday charged the owner of Ganpati Systems, a computer shop located within the Shanti Complex on S. P. Verma Road, for faking burglary involving theft of computers and other hardware worth over Rs. 7 lakh, in an attempt to defraud the insurance company.

Sanjay Singh, DSP (Town), in his report submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar, said there was no sign of forced entry into the shop and the whole burglary bit was staged to get money from an insurance company.

The owner of the shop lost a large sum of money in the business when it operated from a store on Boring Canal Road. After that he moved his shop to S. P. Verma Road. With all signs at the alleged crime scene indicating an inside job and a recent insurance policy taken to protect the property, it is clear that the crime was clearly staged for obvious insurance benefits, the report said.

No arrest has been made in the case yet.

The crime was reported last Monday.
