Mahila Brigade to Burn Effigies of Politicians
Patna: May 14, 2008
Members of the National Women's Brigade (Rashtriya Mahila Brigade), following a meeting of its state-level workers at the MLA Club in Patna on Wednesday, announced their decision to launch a state-wide 'burn effigy' day on June 2 to protest against those who are openly opposed to the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill.
"On June 2, we will burn the effigies of all those leaders who are against the Women's Reservation Bill," Brigade's national president Anita Sinha said.
She further said that if the government failed to pass the Bill in the next session of the Parliament, the outfit would be forced to launch a nationwide intense agitation that would disrupt the functioning of the Lok Sabha.
The women also blamed the Congress-led UPA government for the skyrocketing prices of food and other essential items.
"This government has failed to keep the prices under control forcing many poor families on the brink of starvation. Situation will only worsen if the government is not held accountable now," said Neelam Kumari, another member of the women's group.
