An array of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) wings in Patna on Thursday stepped up heat on the Congress-led UPA government at the Center for failing to control prices of essential commodities from skyrocketing by holding dharnas at more than 262 places throughout the state.

In Patna, the BJP's farmers' cell held a dharna at the Kargil Chowk with participation from leaders like party state president Radha Mohan Singh, farmers' cell state president Satyendra Narayan Kushwaha, Rajya Sabha Member Dr. C. P. Thakur, legislators Ganga Prasad, Arun Kumar Sinha, Nitin Naveen and others.

At Kurji intersection, BJP's Govansh Empowerment cell held a protest where senior party leader Kiran Ghai and others took part.

The party's women's wing meanwhile demonstrated at the Income Tax roundabout under the leadership of Sarita Rai. Prof. Sukhda Pandey, Renu Verma, Swarn Lata and other women members of the cell spoke against the UPA government for failing to check the steadily rising prices in the nation.

At the Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam crossing, BJP's extreme backward cell held a dharna to protest against the rising prices.

The Panchayati Raj cell also held a sit-out at the Kargil Chowk while the party's youth wing organized a dharna at the Patna Junction roundabout.

Chanting 'check price or step down' and similar other slogans, the BJP leaders blasted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for refusing to see things in perspective and failing to take measures to provide relief to the lower middle and lower class people who were suffering the most due to continually rising prices.

Protests were also held at Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Saharsa, Samastipur and other parts of the state.
