Photo by Anupam SinghChief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the much-publicized Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) and announced his decision to give 25 acres of land in Mithapur for the building of the campus.

The university would be built on the land currently occupied by Mithapur bus stand that would be relocated elsewhere in an attempt to make room for an 'educational hub' in Patna, the Chief Minister said adding his government was committed to improve the condition of the existing educational institutes while continuing to attract new top institutes to the sate.

BJP Holds Statewide Dharna in Bihar over Rising Prices. Photo by Anupam SinghThe CNLU that is currently operating from its makeshift campus at the A. N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies in Patna would begin its 2009 session in the new campus, Kumar said.

Besides the Law University, the so-called 'educational hub' would also consist of a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Aryabhatta Technical University, and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), it was learnt.

The newly-appointed Chief Justice of Patna High Court Rajendra Mal Lodha, who is also the Chancellor of the CNLU, praised the efforts of the Nitish government in the field of education and pledged to make the Law University one of the best in its category.

Others who were present on the occasion included state Attorney General P. K. Shahi, Vice Chancellor Dr. A. Laxminath, and Human Resources Secretary Anjani Kumar Sinha.
