The president of the All India Fair Price Shop Dealers Federation D. C. Kataria, while addressing the gathering said that if all the public distribution shop owners were not given the status of government employees immediately, more than 35,000 shop-owners would be forced to go on an indefinite strike come June 1.

Association leaders, while appealing to the union members to remain united and not be 'fooled' by the government's 'stick and carrot' offer, said the organization would take out a silent procession to the Chief Minister's Janata Durbar on May 26 and produce its demand before him to seek his intervention in the case.

"The Chief Minister is aware of our problems and the prevailing corruption in the Fair Price shops. We hope he is sympathetic to our demands and move fast to resolve this issue," Kataria said.
