Governor Hosts Buddha Jayanti Celebration

Patna: May 19, 2008

Bihar Governor R. S. Gavai, on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti on Monday, appealed to all to follow the preaching of Lord Buddha for that was the only way to achieve peace in today's world that is plagued with turmoil.

At a function organized at the Governor's mansion, the Governor and his wife, along with other dignitaries paid their respects to Lord Buddha as the Information and Public Relations department, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Creative Arts presented a cultural show that included a short play based on the life of the Enlightened.

Another event to mark the occasion was held at the Buddha Murti in Kadam Kuan that was attended by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders Ram Kripal Yadav and Shyam Rajak, K. P. Ramaiyya, and Padmashree recipient Sudha Varghese, among others.

More than half a dozen other such functions were organized in Patna including the Human Rights Protection Organization and Ashok Buddha Vihar attended by former Chief Minister of Bihar and Agriculture Minister Nagmani.
