Robbery Thwarted by Alert Neighbors in Shastri Nagar

Patna: May 19, 2008

Thanks to an alert and concerned neighborhood after a series of crime, armed robbers in Punaichak under Shastri Nagar police station on late Sunday night had to run for their lives after people thwarted their attempt to rob a professor's house by quickly surrounding the house and opening fire in the air scaring off the criminals.

As reported, about 4-5 criminals, taking advantage of an unlocked door, entered into the house of Professor Sanjay Kumar Jha with intent to commit robbery. When they tried to take the professor's parents hostage, other family members started to scream for help.

Hearing their cry, several people in the neighborhood gathered outside the house while some others pulled out their licensed guns and opened fire in the air.

Sensing threat and possible lynching as has happened numerous times in past few months, the criminals ran for their lives and managed to escape in the cover of the darkness.

Jha has filed a case against the unnamed criminals. Raids have begun to nab the robbers though without any success so far, station in-charge Kamod Prasad said.
