High Court Rejects Shahabuddin's Bail Plea

Patna: May 20, 2008

The Patna High Court on Tuesday turned down the bail plea of incarcerated Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Siwan MP Mohammed Shahabuddin in a case relating to recovery of illegal firearms from his home in Pratappur village in Siwan district.

Justice Vijayeshwar Narain Sinha, after rejecting Shahabuddin's plea presented by his lawyer Yaduvansh Giri, directed the special court in Siwan to complete all cases against the MP within the next two months.

The incident refers to the April 24, 2005 raid by a Special Task Force led by the then Superintendent of Police (SP) of Siwan Ratna Sanjay that resulted in the recovery of two banned assault rifles, one stolen motorcycle and a Tata Sumo. Two of Shahabuddin's henchmen were also arrested during the raid.
