Seven Dead in Bus Accident; Many Injured

In a bus accident under Gaurichak police station in Patna district on Thursday, at least seven persons were reported dead and over three dozen injured.

The accident happened around 2:00 pm when a packed bus going from Patna to Jehanabad, in an attempt to avoid a head on collision with a car near the Jahaji Kothi, veered off the road and plunged into a ditch on the National Highway.

Officials were trying to identify the deceased whose bodies were transported to the Nalanda Medical College Hospital for post mortems.

Villagers tried to pull out the injured passengers from the bus whose body was badly mangled in the accident.

Survivors were taken to various hospitals and nursing homes in Patna where at least a dozen remain in critical conditions.

The whereabouts or the condition of the bus driver was not known.

District Magistrate Jitendra Kumar Sinha announced a package of Rs. 10,000 each to the family members of the deceased.

The police are investigating the accident.
