Ultras Blow up Cell Phone Towers in Gaya, Aurangabad Districts

Maoist extremists in Aurangabad district on late Thursday night blew up four cell phone towers in Erauri and Ketaki villages while also blowing up a transformer in their latest bid to restore violence after a lull of nearly two months possibly due to flood disaster in north Bihar.

The ultras also torched a mobile tower under Barachatti police station in Gaya district, officials in Gaya said.

As reported, nearly a hundred Naxalites on Thursday night, used powerful dynamites and pipe bombs blew up four cell phone towers belonging to the Reliance and Airtel companies in Aurangabad district, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganesh Kumar said on Friday. They also attacked the security guard of one of the towers sending him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The explosions in Ketaki were so strong that it also damaged two houses located a few hundred yards from the mobile towers, police said.

Damages are estimated to be in the range of Rs. 2 crore, a Reliance official identified as Rameshwar Singh said.
