Man Attempting Suicide outside Governor's House Arrested
Patna: Oct. 6, 2008
The police in Patna on Monday morning arrested a man after he tried to commit suicide outside the Governor's house blaming prolonged unemployment for his drastic actions.
Shambhu Nath Jha of Darbhanga district apparently arrived in Patna on Monday morning with the intention to self-immolate in front of the Raj Bhawan so as to attract media attention.
His ploy, however, failed as the police outside the Governor's house noticed his suspicious behavior and took him into custody. A bottle of kerosene oil and a match-book was recovered from his possession indicating his ghastly intentions.
Jha told the police that despite having a job card issued by the government that guarantees a minimum of 100 days of employment each year, he was unable to find a permanent position ultimately leading to his decision to end his life.
"I was being given run-arounds by the government officials in Darbhanga and despite my openness about ending my life, officials refused to look into my case," Jha told Sachivalay police station in-charge Naresh Prasad Sharma.
