Three Arrested in the FCI Employee Murder Case

Patna: Oct. 7, 2008

The police in Patna on Tuesday took three persons in custody in connection with the Sept. 25 murder of the FCI employee Vijay Chowdhary who was shot to death during a robbery attempt in Defense Colony under Kankarbagh police station.

Two of the accused, however, had already surrendered before a court while a third one was arrested from his home in Masaurhi.

As reported, the police, during a raid in Masaurhi, arrested Rajan Kumar and recovered some firearms and two cell phones. During his interrogation, Rajan admitted of taking part in Chowdhary's killing and named Shiv Kumar and Praveen Kumar as his co-conspirators.

Both Shiv and Praveen had earlier surrendered before a court in unrelated crimes and were sent to jail awaiting trial.

The police, based on Rajan's statements, took Shiv and Praveen into custody for further questioning.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar, at a press conference on Tuesday, said that on Sept. 25, the three men pulled a number of armed robberies in Kankarbagh areas. Their next victim Chowdhary, however, showed some sign of resistance after which the criminals pulled the trigger on him killing him on the spot, the SSP said.

After killing Chowdhary, the criminals, who face more than 3 dozen cases of armed robberies, murders, snatching, and vehicle theft, among others, then fled to Masaurhi to avoid being arrested, he said.
