NDA Leaders to Promote Interlinking of Bihar Rivers
Patna: Oct. 7, 2008
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh, following his return from the flood-hit areas in Purnia and Saharsa to Patna on Tuesday, revived the issue of interlinking rivers in Bihar to minimize flood in the state if the NDA returned to power in the next Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at a press conference at the Patna Airport hangar, Singh said that Bihar was blessed with a number of rivers providing important lifeline to the state's economy while rendering the state in an unique advantageous position if exploited effectively by linking the rivers together.
Singh said he was satisfied with the progress in the relief work in flood-affected areas despite contradictory claims by the Opposition.
The BJP leader, who was accompanied by his political ally and Janata Dal (U) national president Sharad Yadav, blasted the Congress-led UPA government at the Center for continuing to look the other way 'while the terrorists unleashed a series of deadly attacks to destabilize the nation's secular fabric'.
Demanding an all-party meet to discuss terrorism and other acts of communal violence in the nation, Singh said that the UPA government had no right to impose ban on national organizations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) or Bajrang Dal while declaring a terrorist outfit like SIMI a 'cultural organization'.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Health Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Cooperative Minister Giriraj Singh, party state president Radha Mohan Singh, Water Resources Minister Vijendra Yadav, and BJP leaders Kiran Ghai and Rajiv Pratap Rudy were also present during the press conference.
