Patna: Oct. 11, 2008

The police in Patna on Saturday morning nabbed the notorious criminal and the 'terror of Ara' Chand Mian from near Maurya Lok Shopping Complex under Kotwali police station after receiving anonymous tips of him being in the state capital for his medical check-up.

According to the reports, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar ordered a stakeout near the Maurya Lok Shopping Complex on Dak Bungalow Road after receiving information that Chand Mian, wanted in more than 4 dozen criminal cases including murders, armed robberies, extortions, and kidnappings in both Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, was in Patna to receive medical treatment.

Soon Mian was located in the area and taken into custody without any incident.

Believed to be the personal bodyguard and sharp-shooter of UP legislator Mukhtar Ansari who allegedly played a huge role in the high-profile murder of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from UP Krishnanand Rai, Chand Mian a.k.a. Salman Mian, had managed to escape from the Ara prison in 2005 and had taken refuge at yet another dreaded criminal of UP Haidar Ali Tiger.

Mian was taken to Ara in the evening where he currently faces intense quizzing in a number of serious crimes, officials said.
