Patna: Oct. 17, 2008
The ladies wing of the Punjabi Biradri in Patna on Friday observed Karwa Chauth at Lala Laljpat Rai Bhawan to wish for the longevity of their husbands by dressing in colorful saris and breaking their day-long fast after looking at the reflection of the moon in shallow water.
Appropriately dressed like newly-wed brides, the women sang songs and danced to the tunes of folk songs while also participating in family-oriented games and contests the winners of which were later given prizes by the organizers.
The president of the Ladies Wing of the Punjabi Biradri Roshni Singh said this was the first year of Karwa Chauth for many participants and that made the event even more lively and young.
Neeru Arora, the secretary of the organization, informed that the parents of the first-time Karwa Chauth participants also have to give new dresses to the immediate family members of the in-laws thus fostering unity and togetherness between the two families.
The event was inaugurated by State Bank of India Women's Committee deputy chairperson Mohini Sharan.
