Patna: Sept. 4, 2008
Hundreds of flood victims escaping their villages in North Bihar were given free food and drinks on Thursday at an event organized at Patna Junction by the Baidyanath Seva Sangh, a volunteer organization, in an attempt to ease some pain of the flood victims.
As thousands of flood victims took advantage of the food camp, passengers arriving from other places as well reaped the benefit of the charity and enjoyed the free food since the organizers did not discriminate between the actual flood victims and the regular passengers arriving at Patna Junction from other places.
While the adults were treated with Puri-Sabzi, children were offered regular meal as well as milk, bread, and biscuits to keep them satisfied.
Camp organizers said the Charity Trust had fed more than 25,000 people, about 25% of them actual flood victims, took advantage of the event since it launched the operation last Sunday.
"Bihar is going through an extremely tough time due to the unprecedented flood in the Kosi region and this is our way to bring some relief to the victims who are arriving in Patna after days of starvation," a camp official said.
