Patna: Sept. 4, 2008

The Mauritius government, in the wake of the catastrophic flood in Bihar caused by the breach in Kusaha dam in the Kosi River, in a letter written to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, said his country would soon dispatch help to combat flood in the state that also happens to be his native land.

Dr. Navinchandra Ramghoolaam, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, said he was extremely concerned with the ground situation in Bihar and the number of people still trapped in flood water. "The flood has shaken me up but I am with you in this hour of need and would do anything to help alleviate the conditions in my ancestral homeland," he said.

The Prime Minister further said that he was very impressed with the relief efforts mounted by the Chief Minister and this had increased his respect for Kumar more than ever before.

Earlier in February, Ramghoolaam visited Bihar, including his ancestral village of Bihia. The Prime Minister, during his visit, also unveiled a statue of his father and the first PM of Mauritius Sir Seewoosagar Ramghoolaam in Patna.
