Rahul Gandhi visits flood-hit Bihar
Patna: Sept. 10, 2008
The Congress Party General Secretary and MP from Amethi Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited the flood-ravaged areas in Purnia district to get a view of the destruction caused by flood following breach in the Kusaha Dam nearly three weeks ago.
Gandhi visited several relief camps in Purnia and asked the welfare of the flood victims.
"What I have seen with my own eyes is simply incredible. So much devastation, so much destruction - it is unbelievable!" Gandhi said.
Mingling with the villagers at the relief camps, the heir-apparent of the Congress Party assured the victims that the help was on its way though he failed to explain what he meant by that.
Earlier on August 28, Gandhi's mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi also visited Bihar along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil to survey the flood-affected areas. She was given a personal aerial tour by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan.
