Two school
boys have been kidnapped over the last ten days.
Things have worsened over the years, and seems
to be fast deteriorating with the impending
polls.
This proves that the state government cares a
hoot for its people and is confident that it
will again be voted to power. What gives it this
confidence? Surely, the vast majority of poor
and illiterates in the state.
Let's accept democracy is a rule of fools. As
long as our backyard is not burning, we are not
bothered about our neighbour.
There is a whistle blower in all of us, but it's
dormant, hidden scared, stripped of courage,
after late Satyendra Dubey's brutal murder.
The once glorious student movement has breathed
its last, and the younger generation will grow
up too scared to even cry in the face of
injustice.
Even God has turned deaf....!

How about initiating a campaign for
awareness? We can try to wake and
educate some so that they can make
an educated decision. - Ashutosh

I
also feel equally frustrated and
helpless about the situation in
Bihar ! I have such good memories of
Patna while growing up, a city of
joy for me. I remember wonderful
people like Sri Binodanand Jha,
Sribabu, Sri Jagjivan Ram*.. all
nice Political leaders who were such
good idols *and now the political
leadership is in the hands of
criminals?! How did that happen*what
went wrong and when? The toughest
question is how to end this
'Criminal Era' and get back our
peaceful time of which we can be
proud of? - Neena Gangulee

It
is sad to see the idealistic zeal of
the author a year ago dampened by
the sad realities of today. While a
part of growing up and maturing
manifests in a very palpable shift
from idealism to pragmatism, the sad
state of Bihar is very visible in
the pain and disgust that is
transparent in the author's words.
Most of us share her sentiments on
this, all except those who the
beneficiaries of the Goonda raj -
for them, RJD can do no wrong. Some
of them have spoken up on the
"Readers Write" before - never in
form of an original article, but as
rabid reactions in an attempt to
demolish sane ideas from other
readers with their venom of casteism.
While most people have moved on
towards the goals of prosperity,
this dinosaur segment still hangs on
to its caste business fomenting
reverse discrimination and
partnering with a evil regime.
The
longer the people of Bihar take it
lying down, the worst it will get. A
long time ago I had suggested that
people need to get armed, make
neighborhood watch groups and take
care of their own security. At that
time it sounded a little drastic and
maybe, it even does now to the
Ahinsawadis that our society is so
full of. An armed citizenry is the
best prevention to crime. Yes there
will be occasional shoot outs but
what will be saved is the basic
fabric of society that lies in
tatters today. Law abiding citizens,
who pay taxes, have fewer than three
children and who have a sustainable
source of income should be given gun
handling lessons and permitted to
own guns and carry them (if
concealed) on their person Guns
bring respect. People stop harassing
others and everyone follows the rule
of law. Right now, the goons have
the guns anyway! - AARCEE 01/27/05 |
