Aamir, as a
public figure, has been around now for almost 2
decades. I don't know him personally, but if
anybody who has studied his life pattern, will
definitely agree that his support for NBA (Narmada
Bachao Aandolan) is not a publicity stunt.
Anybody who has been displaced from his native
place, and lost his livelihood, let it be for
whatever reasons, needs attention. If Aamir,
because of his high profile portfolio, comes in
support for these poor people, it’s really not
justified to call it a publicity stunt. Rather,
the issue should be taken with more concern, as
it's having an impact even on those people whom
we call as the one’s who are unaware of the
ground realities, and always live in their filmy
duniya and in filmy style.
Yeah, if any politician would have joined in
support of these displaced farmers, I would have
surely called them opportunist. But, now with
the latest verdict of Supreme Court on this
matter, I don't think any politician is going to
even utter a single word in favour of these
people. Yet, for Aamir or for that matter even
Arundhati Roy... (I came to know that she also
strongly feels the same way for these displaced
and is supporting the movement of Medha Patkar)
they all are doing this out of their sheer
emotions and at least I feel it that way only.
Aamir, fresh from success of "Rang De Basanti"
may just be trying to show the youth of the
nation like what we people can do to really
improve the conditions of the poor, the needy,
the environment, and the nation. He has set the
example by his movies, and now trying to follow
the path that he preached in his movies. Lets
view this in a positive frame, and not call
these people as mere opportunists and there
actions as publicity stunts.
