I
was aghast to read about Mr. Amitabh Kumar Das,
IPS officer and the current Commandant of Bihar
Military Police, who filed a
writ petition in the Patna High Court seeking
security from the banned Ranvir Sena.
This whole thing would have been hilarious, had
it not been so shameful. How will law and order
work, if keepers of law themselves are afraid of
criminals? I am speaking strictly from the
perspective of him being a police officer. His
private life is just that, his private life.
I am surprised no senior police officer or
politician ever commented on his lack of
courage. How would we react if in a war,
soldiers start petitioning the courts for their
safety? How would we have reacted if all those
police officers fighting terrorists suddenly
developed cold feet and rushed to courts to
protect their lives?
Mr. Amitabh Kumar Das has the power of the
state, gun and a whole force behind him. Instead
of rushing to court in fear, he should instill
fear in the hearts of numerous Senas in
criminals still thriving in Bihar.

Mr. Amitabh Kumar Das, being an IPS
officer is well aware and versed
with the “System of Law and Order”
and he is playing his cards right.
He has two options either he run
away or gives a good fight by saving
his uniform. There is nothing
emotive about it. Conspiracy, false
accusations, Media blast does not
have any place for brave hearts and
in this kind of situation it is
advisable to strengthen every front
and take the war to the enemy .
He is not only brave but intelligent
and sharp soldier. When your enemies
are not well marked we have to
ensure everything in our hand. It is
fight against the system. Judiciary
is also part of this system. Say if
high court orders to move the Ranvir
chief out of Bihar, he will win half
of the fight. Needless to say,
Ranvir Sena is like well organized
army and also has political clout.

Well I agree to your opinion that
Mr. Das is sharp and intelligent. If
he is upright then hats off to him.
The lady in question is also comes
from a decent family and would not
like to make allegation to make her
whole life hell in patriarchal
society of Bihar. We need to look at
the other side of the coin too.
It has been couple of years that he
has been shifted out of Arwal. All
this while he was safe, but as soon
as somebody cast aspersion on the
integrity of his character his life
becomes endangered.
He might be one like those lousy,
degraded greedy policemen who misuse
their position and do not give a
dime to the system. Or he might be
that greedy and cheap youth who
competes in UPSC just to get a great
dowry.
Lets wait and watch. - Mohit

I sure hope he has strong reasons
for doing this. Bihar Police is not
exactly known for its high morale,
an action like this further pushes
it south. I am wondering how
motivated a police jawan or even an
inspector would be to take on armed
senas after learning that their top
officer is himself running for cover
from them. I have not come across
such incident in any other state of
India. I am sure Mumbai underworld,
Punjab/Kashmir terrorists, even
Maoists in Andhra Pradesh were
equally, if not more, armed and
trained to be a lethal force. We
expect protectors to ask for
resources to fight crime, not
protection itself. - Prasoon
