The news of the arrest of 4 young
men in connection with the murder of
Patna University Professor Papiya
Ghosh and her live-in maid is most
welcome. What is not clear, however,
is the motive of the crime. The
master brain behind the killings
need to be uncovered and only then
can the police claim credit for
solving the crime. Since this
killing has shaken the entire
nation, we can only hope that the
criminals will be tried and brought
to justice. - Bahu Virupaksha - Dec. 18, 2006
We
have got so used to denigrating
Bihar Govt and its operations that
we forget to acknowledge the good
work done by them. It is heartening
to note the success of Patna Police
in solving this murder case. It is
also noteworthy that police
officials went about doing their job
in a professional manner rather than
make grandiose claims.
Kudos is also due to the political
leadership for allowing the
professional space to the police
deptt to do their job. There was
pressure to hand over the case to
CBI, but they chose to back the
local police who have indeed
delivered the result. - T. V.

Congratulations, but tell me why
these cops don’t work with the same
zeal and enthusiasm in all cases.
There is no doubt that they have
done an excellent job and deserve to
be congratulated. But the real
credit goes to media who highlighted
the case to such an extent that even
PM had to intervene. Credit is also
due to PU teachers and all those who
participated in token strike and
brought this to the level where it
became difficult for police to
ignore. I wish Bihar Police show
equal efficiency in cases relating
to common people. - Anjum Parwej - Dec. 19, 2006 |
