Readers Write

I am jotting down some feelings as they surface within me. I do not know of any reasons why it should be published by PD, except perhaps that some thoughtful reader may modify or add to my way of thinking to make my understanding more complete. Perhaps this write-up may do some good in someone’s life. Perhaps, the little bundles of joy, children may be understood more and be treated better.

Man, with his evolved brain, is a miracle of God’s creation. Man has a brain powerful enough to break down atoms to sub-atomic particles; to sense the presence of millions of galaxies billions and trillions of light years away. We have studied and analyzed how the earth was born, how life originated on it and what life forms evolved from the dim mists of the bygone centuries to the present day.

In the younger years of our lives we are obsessed with the greatness of our own wisdom and in that celebration of being ourselves we pursue and expand the vast boundaries of science and make great contributions for the generations to follow. However, as we age, we become more aware of that hidden greatness that created us and all our greatness. Suddenly all our scientific achievements seem small, our positions in life and society seem hardly relevant and we turn towards the Supreme Creator, God. In our effort to get closer to God we give up wild ways of living to adopt calmer, quieter ways of existence which permit us time to introspect and pray.

Billions of people around the globe are religious and each one is longing for a glimpse of God. We say God is omni-potent and omni-present. Omni-potent and omni-present???!!! Though He has such great influence over our existence yet we never get to see Him?

If I say I see God everyday, most of you would think I am raving mad and pack me into the nearest mental hospital. However, I am willing to risk your ire and try to explain. I see God everyday in little children. I call them “God’s very own people.” You can feel God in the innocent smile and the merry laughter of a child. There is that innocent, vulnerable child inside each one of us. As we grow through our teens the child is hurt by the negatives around a number of times. To protect itself the child puts on the armor of aggression, arrogance etc.- all traits that we associate with adults. When the armor is complete we have an adult – a child in an armored vehicle. Perhaps that is how God lives in us. Over time we show off our armor to the world and the world loses sight of the tiny, vulnerable child sitting at the controls.

Till that child is at the controls, God is within us. The child knows the pain of being hurt and hence would not hurt others. The child knows how good it feels to be cared for and hence will care for others. The child knows the great feeling of security and hence he will protect. The armored vehicle the child is driving is oriented towards the good of mankind as it is driven by Godly forces.

It is only when people get rotten to the core with negative indoctrinations that the child in them leaves and so does God and a void is left behind. They become armored vehicles with no controls. The controls are taken over by the virus of selfishness, ill-feelings and hatred. They stop feeling the pain of the hurt they cause. Such armored vehicles are increasing. That is the unfortunate truth of today. We can blame our changing value systems or a host of other causative factors.

For the world to be a great place to live, we have to restore the omnipresent child in his omnipotent armored vehicle.
