Few
days back, I came across an article about Shri
Dasrath Manjhi. Most of you must have read about
it but still the article is to salute him and
his unbridled enthusiasm for a public cause.
According to various news websites, he single
handedly carved a 360-ft long, 25-ft high and
30-ft wide road by cutting a mountain for 22
years. All by himself in typically "ekla chalo
re" fashion. I am humbled and bewildered just by
imagining the sheer magnitude of this Herculean
task.
Apparently when
his wife was injured, he had to go around the
hills to take her to the hospital. In stead of
spending a lifetime whining about lack of
infrastructure, government inaction and lack of
community goodwill, he took it upon himself to
literally move the mountains. He had tried to
get the promise of earlier CMs to adopt the
highway project but it remained just that, a
promise like everything else.
It is
heartening to see that even after 22 years he
has not lost his enthusiasm and passion for this
good and social cause. He met the current CM and
he was so moved that Mr. Nitish Kumar offered
him his chair to sit down. How rightly so.
However, I do hope that Shri Manjhi sacrifices
and only wish of life would be fulfilled in this
lifetime and he is able to walk on a pukka road
once at least. I really hope that once the road
is complete, it should be named in his honour.
That would be the best way to salute this never
tiring and inspiring of a person.

In today's world of hypocrites and
pessimistic whiners this man surely
stands as a role model all must
adopt. He took on everyone's
responsibilities and made it his
own, and purely his own,
responsibility. Look at his
achievement!!! - Rajesh Chaubey -
