Media-Men Acting Like Politicians

Today media has become the greater mean for information, discussion, policy making and social awareness. The role of media has made it the Fourth Pillar of constitution. The great deeds of media has made it so powerful that everybody wants to get attached to it. Nowadays, whenever people see a Channel Van, they rush there knowing that their face may be broadcast on TV 24 hours a day. This great effect has attracted even politicians. Now the channels are also divided on political lines. Therefore, some channels represent one event on one political line while the other paints it in a different way. For example, take a case of mosque demolition in Gujarat during anti-encroachment drive. One channel, NDTV, was reporting it as unmatched commitment of the VADODARA MUNICIPAL CORPORATION whereas another channel STAR NEWS was painting it as a communal step. Obviously, the reason may have been only one, but different channels were presenting it in different ways.

The same thing has happened with Karan Thapar and Nitish Kumar. If you want to see dark patches, you can see that in rising sun too. Nitish Kumar has come as a singular hope for the ruined state of Bihar. Instead of congratulating him for such a great victory over the demons and asking him about the development plans initiated by him, Karan has wasted time in asking those issues which would continue to be there unless the basic problems are resolved.

For example, can a political party abolish the private armies like Ranvir Sena and MCC by force without stopping the unemployed youths from joining it? The only solution is to give jobs to the young blood to earn their breads so that they come to their homes, so tired that they get no time to think about RS or MCC. Big cities like Mumbai, Kolkata etc. are more peaceful because of those opportunities which attract young people to be engaged in developmental works rather than to think about their caste or religion.

But the basic issue is that the personalities like Karan see themselves as politicians rather than media persons.

One more important point is to be remembered that, any public figure invited on crosstalk programmes is given a list of issues on which discussion is be concentrated. I cannot understand why Nitishji accepted that list which still paints Bihar as a jungle. Maybe the fear of one channel going totally against him was so threatening that he had to accept and answer those questions.

Anyway, Karan questions cannot shake the newly-risen confidence of us (Biharis) because "WE HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE".

Ek Taraf Laloo Hai... Doosri Taraf Nitish Kumar. The choice is obvious.

Comments:
Another example of media biasing is "JAYA TV" works blindly for Jayalalitha whereas "SUN TV" is for Tamil rival Karunanidhi.

The politicians don't bother about interview preparations, as they know actual voters cannot afford cable TVs. To win the election, the caste based rallies, reservations, creation of a new district, installation of statues of the community leaders, renaming of a city or stadium bring sufficient fuel.

The good news we hear about Bihar is because of private participations like Abhayanands' Super 30, Mittal's interest, Prakash Jha and Satrughan Sinha's proposals etc.

From the government side, we are still to hear news about control on crimes. - Tarakeswar Dubey - June 2, 2006
