Like
everyone else I also have a point or two to make
about reservation in job/studies etc. The
purpose of having reservation as a tool for
upliftment of members of our society who are
lagging behind (poor or due to injustice of
caste system) is being defeated partly because,
I feel, it has not reached the masses. People
who got assistance due to reservation did better
than their peers (at least economically; I do
not have any data on this but I assume) and
their next generation continues to get benefits
of reservation. I see at least two problems
because of this:
1) Instead of reaching a larger population the
benefits remain clustered in the hands of a few
(I think similar situation can be associated
with the caste system).
2) People who are not eligible tend to compare
themselves with the ones who are, assuming that
both of them are economically at par, and feel
frustrated (to put it mildly).
I know this is nowhere close to the real
situation on ground but I feel we can have a
discussion and may be come up with something
useful.

Sanjay
ji, there is no point in flogging a
dead horse. This issue has been
discussed, dissected, and debated
over and over again and no one
really wants to talk about it
anymore. You are not making any new
point. What you have said has been
said hundreds of times before. This
discussion is a complete waste of
time and space. Our beloved leaders
in the UPA government have already
made up their minds. You and I can
make all the noise we want, it's not
going to make an iota of difference.
The only way these termites (read
our leaders) will change their minds
if the pro-quota proponents and
recipients openly announced their
decision to kill all the leaders. Or
when 100% reservation is imposed to
drive upper caste people like Arjun
Singh and V. P. Singh out of power.
Anything short of that, you can
forget about it. Reservation in
everything is a foregone conclusion
and the best you and I can do is to
surrender to their wills and don't
question its validity unless we want
to be labeled as racists. Careful
what you speak here, there are
'constitutional experts' here who
are lurking only to pound on you if
you questioned the 'Arjunization'
and 'Paswanization' of the Indian
system where some people are more
equal than others. - Anil Kumar -
