Many people had been wondering all these years as to what the magic US had that it was able to make the Kalia naag i.e. Pakistan dance to its tune. Today the cat is out of the bag!

In an interview with CBS, the Pakistani President, Parvez Musharraf finally revealed that all his 'namardi' to stand with the monster (Taliban) that he himself had created, resulted from a US threat that "Pakistan would be bombed into the Stone Age" unless they cooperated.

In the early stages of the operations against the Taliban, when the Pakistanis quietly stood behind the US with their tail between their legs, the world was led to believe that Pakistani cooperation was being bought - as the US had agreed to write off many of their loans. International watchers believed it to be true... after all the unreliable Pakistani Generals could sell their mothers for the right price! No? Well they sold their Nuclear Technology without caring about proliferation! So Q.E.D! It is thereby proved that the Pakistani Generals would sell their mothers for staying in power.

But today, Musharraf told the world that while it was indeed true that they would sell their mothers for the right price, however, it did not apply in their uncharacteristic expression of cooperation in the war against terror. It may have been shown to the world to be the reason behind their cooperation, but the real reason was that they did not want to be "bombed back to the stone age!"

"Musharraf dar gaya! The green wardi wala General dar gaya!" The green wardi of the Army signifies the willingness to offer the ultimate sacrifice for the country. Musharraf discovered that in this case, the tear in the seam of the seat of his battle fatigue was going to be his savior. He decided to make the penultimate sacrifice. He used his assets to save Pakistan from being bombed. I guess from now a tear in the seams of the fatigues for the Military will be made a standard feature of their uniform. After all the famous poet/philosopher Rahim said, "... Jahan kaam aawe sui, kahan kare talwar!"

Indian leaders have to understand that in dealing with Pakistan, they are talking to the wrong end of the poisonous snake. They must take the cues from the US to encourage Pakistan to cooperate. Also, the time has come for the Pakistani Generals to trade in their manly military dress to something more civilian.... how does salwar-kameez sound?

Comments:
I knew from day one that Musharraf cooperated with the US to avoid being bombed to the stone age. Not for one second did I believe that he did it for anything less. Musharraf’s heart lies with the Jihadist. He lives and breaths Jihad, otherwise he would never have risen through the ranks of the Pakistani army. President Karzai of Afghanistan has a sound advise for Musharraf: You cannot train a snake (terrorists) to bite only one person (India). The snake will bite all the people around it. - Som Vishwakarma, USA - Sept. 23, 2006

We all know how shrewd Musharraf is. To what extents he would stoop to stay in power has been amply described in the original article. While we may feel happy that Pakistan was made to walk on the dotted line with a revolver to it's head, the big question, to my mind is, why is this shrewd, unreliable man singing like a canary? All these years, when he was literally on fire within his own country for supporting the US, he kept the reasons for his namardgi a tightly guarded secret. Why the earth shaking exposures now? Is it to tell the hard liners "I have not sold you out. I was under great pressure, you know. I was at heart your man and shall always be so. Now that the heat is over let us meet and work together again." 9/11 made Musharraf a very important man. That addictive media attention and popularity is waning now. Musharraf is politically insecure too. Baluchistan is hot. He needs something to bolster support again. Is it time for another big event?

Now Musharraf has added a new tune too. The terrorist groups are not in my control so do not hold me responsible if bombs kill people in your country. He skillfully avoids the question about why terror schools are still being run all over Pakistan. Is he ignorant about that? Or the question who controls the trained terrorist's activities? Again ignorant? That is Musharraf for you. He will stab you in the back with one hand, shake your hand with the other hand, feigning ignorance and innocence.

The other big question is if Uncle Sam is serious about ridding the world of terror why do they not ask the obvious questions mentioned above? A similar stone age threat from Uncle Sam can help close down the terror schools. But no!!! Uncle Sam does not want to remove the Cobra's fangs. Uncle Sam wants to train the Cobra to bite others but as per his instructions.

US has to stop playing with fire. One 9/11 should be enough for many life times. Had the US policy makers lost their close relatives on 9/11, the US policy would have been more honest. They are insensitive to the grief and loss of the people who lost their dear ones on 9/11. This lack to sincerity to the feelings of their own people makes them still pay politics with terror. The much hyped "War against Terror" is all hog wash. It is being used by the US administration to do everything other than curbing terror. Pakistan's terror schools are still intact while poor Saddam is cooling his heals behind bars. In the local dialect they say "Khet khai gadaha, maar khai jolaha". Saddam now knows that all too well. He must be wondering "Am I a victim of the War against Terror?"

I have seen many leaders create Frankenstein monsters which finally ended their own lives. Is Pakistan Uncle Sam's Frankenstein monster? They could be bombed to stone age and beyond was known to Pakistan before 9/11 too but they took the risk. Now Uncle Sam's Frankenstein monster has the dreaded A bomb. It has created two clones in N. Korea and Iran. Uncle Sam still thinks he is in control. But so did Frankenstein before the tragedies struck, didn't he? - Rajesh - Sept. 23, 2006

Pakistan saying we were so frightened as they threatened to bomb us to stone age is as much a hog wash as America's War against Terror. The American War against Terror could not dismantle the Pakistani terror factories because the American leaders were playing politics here too even as they sought international co-operation in their War against Terror being fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now the so called War against Terror has run into serious trouble as thousands of US soldiers have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. The true figures of causalities are not reported by the highly sanitized US media. The War against Terror has run out of steam even as Iran & N. Korea stand defiant as they go ahead with their nuclear programs.

The truth is that the American War against Terror was not transparent or honest. It was a cover up for the American Administration to do all it had been planning for long (like the Iraq invasion). Naturally the other sensible countries became cautiously uncooperative. US thought it could do it alone with some help from Britain. It was another power drunk American misadventure like Vietnam. The US paid a very heavy price for it in terms of human lives and money.

Had the US been sincere and had they come forward with a transparent strategy to fight terror globally after 9/11, the troops of all sensible countries of the world would have fought shoulder to shoulder with the US troops.

The sad part is that the victims of terror are divided while the perpetrators are united. Let us not gloat over Musharraf whining and showing his belly like an under dog. He has his connections, he has his interests and he has his plans. He is not to be trusted (remember Kargil). The moment America is caught off guard he and his cronies will execute something hellishly evil and then point accusing fingers in all directions and promise and swear help in another War against Terror.

US thinks they have them on the leash? US thought so before 9/11 too. The advise President Karzai of Afghanistan gave to Musharraf should be given to the US too - You cannot train a snake to bite only one person (India). The snake will bite all the people around it. The people trained in the Pak terror factories carried out 9/11. The terror factories, if not dismantled, will continue churning out evil which, with a little instigation, can be used against any one.

It is high time the sensible countries of the world united to honestly and transparently root out terror without playing politics and having hidden agendas. If this does not happen we will all be targeted again and again whenever we are caught off guard. Huge amounts of money and human lives will continue to be lost in policing the world. - Rajesh - Sept. 24, 2006

Why so much hullabaloo on Musharraf? Why do we expect Musharraf to close down Terrorist camp in POK while the terrorists/Maoists are grooming within India in known jungle, district and village without any international boundary attached to it.

We cannot veil our ineptness by vomiting on others head. Had Jehanabad, train derailments, mine blasts, attack on police pickets and killings of civilians perpetuated by trained youths from across the border? The answer is known to us. So first let our home in order then expect or suggest the same from/to others. - Tarakeswar Dubey - Sept. 24, 2006

Dubeyji, a wrong is a wrong. You can not justify, condone or pardon a wrong by comparing it with another wrong. Ask the people who have lost family members in the various blasts triggered by terrorists from across the border all over India or on 9/11 in the US and they will vomit their opinion on your head. You do not condone a wrong just because there is another wrong next to it. - Rajesh - Sept. 24, 2006

With all due respect to Mr. Dubey, I don't agree with his opinion. So because we have issues with Naxalites and other terrorist outfits in our own backyard, we have to forfeit our rights to discuss our problems with our neighbors, mainly Pakistan? I don't think even Mr. Dubey honestly believes in what he is saying. - Anil Kumar - Sept. 24, 2006

Dubeyji, who do you think is supplying sophisticated arms and explosives to our Naxalites? India lives in a very tough neighborhood with very long borders which are very difficult to police. Now that the border with Pakistan has been fenced, Bangladesh and Nepal are being used to smuggle arms and explosives to our Naxalites and other dissidents in the North East. Guarding extremely long hostile borders against all climatic odds is more than a Herculean task. Can you name another country facing similar odds? Our border security forces try their best but still some terrorists, arms and explosives slip in.

Summing up till date we have the following:

1) Families of civilian victims who have been killed by these arms and explosives
2) Families of police personnel who have been killed by these arms and explosives
3) Families of 9/11 victims and other bombings world wide
4) Families of the brave US & Indian soldiers who have laid their lives fighting terror

Do you really think that is a small number of people? Is their grief insignificant? Just because till date we have not lost a family member to terror should we look the other way and whistle? The problem is far bigger than you think it is. The octopus which has it's head in the terror factories of Pakistan is fast spreading it's tentacles to other countries. Arming dissidents globally and making it look like internal strife. The purpose of my writing was to call for a global honest and transparent strategy which all sane countries can trust aimed at killing this vicious octopus before it kills more people.

We, the victims, have more than our fair share of people with hidden agendas and leg pulling cynics who try to look brighter than what they really are by contradicting others. So it is half a step forward and many steps back. On the other hand, the perpetrators of acts of terror are united and work with silent, deadly efficiency. If we could stop jumping on each other's toes perhaps we could move a little ahead. - Rajesh - Sept. 25, 2006

I am surprised at the lack of participation on this topic. Perhaps I am imposing my feelings and understanding on everyone else too much and exaggerating things out of proportion. Anyway, what ever I wrote was purely my perception of the situation and it can be entirely flawed. It would be educating to hear the opinion of others. - Rajesh - Sept. 25, 2006

I partially support Mr. Dubey's view as we must control our home grown jerks as well as I believe we must put an eagle's eye on what Musharraf is preaching all around the world. He is the dirtiest player of today's world of terror or anti-terror affair. Unfortunately, because of few ignorant world leaders, he is playing well so far. About his new revelation regarding US threat, I feel like he is diverting whole world from one another major disaster awaiting to happen by the terrorists. Come on folks, Pakistan is already in Stone Age and now running toward 'Pre Stone Age' era. What country will like to waste their resources to honor them back to Stone Age. :)

Well, I would also like to mention that majority of Pakistanis are not in favor of supporting these terrorist camps operational in their country. The Pakistani Terrorism industry works under shadow of few of their Mafias. Musharraf is one of them, obviously. None of the common Pakistani will or will be able to fight against these training camps. The cottage industry of terrorism in Pakistan has grown into a small scale industry now, because they are getting tons of money from several other countries to keep this Industry alive.

The Mao problem inside India is going to be much more acute headache for Indian states tomorrow, whether it is Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh or of course Andhra Pradesh. It sounds like, there is well established connection between Maoist of Nepal or India with Pakistani Intelligence ISI. ISI is easily and very frequently supplying some of most sophisticated arms to these so called rebels.

It's time when India must re activate it's RAW with its genuine and original capacity as it was during Indira Gandhi's period. The RAW have been a brutal world class intelligence agency and we must have them back and operational. - Naren Singh - Sept. 25, 2006
