U.S. President George Bush’s term of endearment for his controversial aide, Carl Rove is ‘Turd blossom’ – a flower of a plant that grows on cow droppings in arid West Texas.

Bush’s actions supposedly to bring democracy in Iraq have been termed by his critics as dishonest misadventures. Although many already have strong opinions about his actions, only history will put the final figure on his balance sheet of legacy when the unrest is over and peace returns.

Many of our readers probably do not know that events in history connect the “efforts to bring democracy to Iraq” tangibly and intangibly to the illegal occupation and colonization of India by Britain.

George W. Bush like his dad, George H. Bush, went to the Ivy League Yale University. Let's look at where this University got its name.

Yale University was named after Elihu Yale, an individual who made a fortune in the early days of British Raj. He was stationed in India as an official of the notorious East India Company that brought shackles to the feet of India in the name of trade.

Elihu was born in Massachusetts, USA but his family moved to Britain when he was very young. In later life Yale spent 27 years in India (Madras) working for the East India Company, where he married a wealthy widow. They had four children, though one died soon after birth, and Elihu's wife took the remaining children back to England when the couple separated.

He returned to Britain in 1699. Over the next century and a half, he was followed by other occupiers who bled India and sucked sustenance to feed their insatiable thirst for power and riches.

Yale was invited to make a donation to the Connecticut College, New Haven, USA and sent a gift of books.

In 1718 he was asked for a further donation, with the college suggesting that if he chose to donate, the college would be renamed in his honour. He sent books and other items which were sold to raise funds for the college, which was then duly named after him. Thus the sweat of the oppressed peasants of India found its home in the foundation stone of Yale University!

Elihu Yale died in London on July 8th 1721, and was buried in Saint Giles' Church, Wrexham.

“Born in America, in Europe bred;
In Africa travell'd and in Asia wed,
Where long he liv'd and thriv'd; in London dead

Much good, some ill, he did;
so hope all's even
And that his soul thro' mercy's gone to Heaven.
You that survive and read this tale (esp. Mr. Bush), take care!
For this most certain exit to prepare:
Where blest in peace, the actions of the Just
smell sweet, and blossom in the silent dust.”
