A few days back I wrote one article
on our decision making ability and
the way our Government is moving in
this issue, the so called
PHILOSOPHICAL Nalanda International
University and more or less many
issues.
Let us first resurrect our dying
universities and their system,
culture, morality and ethics of
education and the meaning of higher
education. Let us start research
oriented Master program in at least
one, Patna University. Let us
transude our own intellectual
capability in the field of art,
science and culture.
We can achieve this "only" after
reversing the persistent
present-trend in our university
campuses. And we can become
trend-setter. And generation-next
will establish this ruined
university with great pride and with
no dearth of good intellectuals,
visionary and futuristic mindset.
And certainly they will revive
"NALANDA UNIVERSITY". Not the one we
are begging for. No place on this
earth can develop themselves without
igniting passion for/of local pride.
Let Biharis/Nalanda'ites be ready
for reconstruction.
THINK BIG!!! THINK AHEAD!!!! DON'T
BEG!!!! HOLD INTELLECTS!!!! - Dr.

I agree with Mr. T. V. Sinha's
comments. In fact Historians also
believe Shilbhadra was from a place
near Silao - the place near ancient
Nalanda University and famous for
its Khaja. So Indrani Bagchi is
wrong on two counts
1. Stating that it was Pranab
Mukherji's initiative
2. Shilbhdra was a Bengali
For god's sake get over this Bengali
Phobia. This kind of approach is
sickening. - Naveen K. Sharma -

India is seriously suffering from
"State Subnationalism". It is more
prevalent in some states, Bengal
being one of them.
Unfortunately national leaders also
fall prey to this as they are also
product of same social background. I
hope an international personality
like Amartya Sen will not fall prey
to same sentiments.
Bihar and Orissa were part of Bengal
presidency during British . From
that aspect every Bihari during
those days could be called a
Bengali. I wonder why they have not
so far claimed (Late) Dr Rajendra
Prasad as Bengali. People in other
states of India want to recognize as
Bihari only those people who work as
labor, milkman, washerman, vegetable
sellers & domestic servants in Metro
cities of India. They dont recognize
the vast number of Great People born
in Bihar like Ashoka, Chandragupta,
Kautilya, Mahavira, Democracy of
Vaishali, Shershah, Veer Kunwar
Singh in the past and Dr Rajendra
Prasad, Jai Prakash Narain, large
number of intelligent people going
to Delhi University, IITs & NIITs,
IAS & Allied Officers & the courage
of Danapur Regiment during Chinese
war in present days.
BIHAR Govt needs to do something
about it thru a media blast. Gujarat
Govt ran a "VIBRANT GUJARAT"
campaign even in USA. Bihar should
promote the state at least as
tourist destination with its
glorious past. Patna should have a
Light & Sound effect program on its
history at a place beautified on the
banks of the Ganges. Govt should
also organize a Bihar festival at
Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to promote
tourism & familiarize people of
other parts of India with its
culture with good media coverage.
Government owes this to its people.

York, USA - June 25, 2007
I am equally concerned but Bihar
must get its respectability back.
Nitish is doing a fine work.
Unfortunately, not many of his
ministers are up to the mark. He
could have persuaded the alliance
and taken some unelected technocrats
in his cabinet. Bihar must develop
some of its soft power. We must
create splashes in India by
completing the projects in time. The
state government must help in
executing all the central projects
such as GQ and East-West corridor of
expressways going through the state.
It must get AIIMS and IIT started as
soon as possible. - Indra - June

I am very much for the revival of
Nalanda University. But the past
glory cannot be revived if any kind
of politics is played. We have to
think several times whether we
deserve and whether we can sustain
such a revival despite spectacular
achievements of our IITs and IIMs.
Nalanda had a very different set up
with concentration on various
schools of logics and philosophies.
Only thirty percent of all scholars,
who wanted entry into the
university, could succeed in
securing admission. Such foreign
scholars, who even falsely declared
in their home countries that they
had studied at Nalanda, were honored
by their respective governments.
The point of discussion should not
be whether Sheelbhadra was a Bengali
or not, rather who should be the
right person to be the chancellor of
the revived Nalanda University as
also what should be its curriculum
and why?
There is no harm in accepting
cooperation from and collaboration
of foreign countries. It does not
amount to begging. It is not that
India cannot afford to set up
Nalanda University but it should be
done in order to highlight the fact
that other countries had also
benefited from the oldest university
of the world. And they owe a lot to
it. After all it has to achieve its
global character and glory. All, who
have benefited from it directly or
indirectly, must unite and
contribute. - Narendra K. Sinha,
Ph.D., Alumni of Nalanda Pali
Institute - June 28, 2007 |
