Let Sethusamudram Bridge Get Completed

I don’t know why BJP and all the minds behind its associate organizations are trying to assume that all Hindus will be with them and they can fool them for their selfish interest.

I also fail to understand why is BJP so much interested in preserving this mythical Ramsetu with its own version of alignment. Can’t it be satisfied with the balance of the stretch of the Ramsetu for preservation for the posterity, as the Sethusamudram Canal will take only 300 metres of the total span? I have some more queries. Has BJP discovered the places where Rama established his camps for the battle with Ravana? Has it also located the Ashok Vatika? Will it negotiate with the friendly Sri Lanka government to preserve those locations or construct suitable monuments?

Let me come towards the home side of Rama where it will be easier to do something suitable enough to perpetuate the memories of the Ramayana and Rama easily. When I remember of Ayodhya episode of 1992 and its consequences, I get a shiver. BJP must do something to show that it wishes to undo what it facilitated in 1992. I still don’t know if the birthplace of Rama was where the Babri Masjid was built at later date. Indians are certainly very poor in keeping their historical records, but the same can’t be said about its writers and poets. If Babri Masjid had been on the site of Rama birthplace, the contemporary poets and writers of the era would have certainly mentioned that. Nothing on the earth could have stopped Tulsidas, Kesavavdas, and many who have written extensively about Rama and his story from expressing their views on the wrong occupation of the holy place by constructing a masjid.

But let us leave the birthplace and find some other equally important place and build the memorial temple in Ayodhya. It can certainly be one on the bank of River Saraju that had so much of importance in Rama’s life all along and that in where he took jal samadhi (embraced death by drowning). It might be in some of those Vatikas that he so much loved to visit with his brothers after spending the busy days at his court. Let BJP or the country as whole build a grand memorial temple or otherwise that can match Taj Mahal in beauty. Who stops it from doing it? Will it not serve the purpose?

But then the questions pour in. Why should the disputed site of Ayodhya and now Ram Setu be the only places of interest of BJP and its associates? Why is it forgetting Buxar where he came along with Viswamitra and killed Tadka and Subahu, the place where he freed Ahilya, and out of all Sitamarhi and Janakpur where he vanquished all the kings at that tender age to break the Shiva’s bow and where the most significant function of his life was held? Let BJP and associates cleanse the hundred of places associated with Rama in Chitrakoot, Panchvati, and Kiskindha and make them worth visiting in name of Rama.

However, I appeal to BJP and Harvard educated Swamy to withdraw the legal holdup from the Supreme Court and let the Sethusamudram project get completed fast.

Comments:
I will suggest you to not to write on such topics on PatnaDaily.

Millions of dollars are being spent to find the origins of Christ. Much of the land is desert and uninhabited so the artifacts dating back to Christ are still intact. Still, archaeologists couldn't find anything concrete on Jesus.

India is densely populated. Much of the Vedic Indian land is not a part of this country anymore. Most of the religious symbols, texts and temples have been destroyed during Muslim invasions. ASI gets a pittance in form of funds and probably is in Neanderthal age when it comes to equipment. And they have the gall to claim that Ram doesn't exist and Ramayana is fictional? If some of the best researchers in the world couldn't establish the existence of a 2000 year old prophet, how can ASI establish that a 10,000 year old king didn't exist?

We want to see their work. Please disclose the finding.

We also like to know what and how much benefits we will get out of this project. There should also be research to address environmental concerns.

We all know DMK motive. In India everyone can abuse Hindus and their religion and then get branded as 'Secular' from 'Secular media'.

I want to remind you a similar incident. In December 2004, the UPA Government told the Parliament it was abandoning the Saraswati River Heritage Project. The project was meant to carry out excavations and trace the route the Saraswati took before it dried up. Its budget was a mere Rs 4.98 crore. Yet, the Culture Minister announced it was being shut down; the search for the Saraswati was not worth it.

As we know Saraswati River is mentioned in the Vedas. But all the scholars said it is myth till satellite data showed that there is still an underground river running and it is the same mentioned in the Shruti. Now where is the apology? - Ranjeet Kumar - Sept. 19, 2007

To be modern and forward-looking is good, but to clean the history in this process is suicidal.

Every child born in India in Hindu community is taught and asked to follow the deeds and principles of the great Avatar, Rama. It has been a indivisible part of our society. Ramayan is considered the most pious book in Hindu community. Now, due to central government and yours effort, there are questions over authenticity of several incidents and places portrayed in Ramayan. I have some serious concerns about these acts:

Science has its own limits. It's correct that science couldn’t prove the hands of human in such a bridge construction but who knows the scientific methods have achieved such an accuracy to prove the age and type of any construction. There are some methods to find out the age of fossils, but who knows the outcomes of these methods is correct. Science is a continuous process of establishing and negating facts. If science is not able to prove the RamaSetu fact, it's the fault of science and not Ramayana.

At the age of RamCharitManas, there would have been no satellites, no NASA and no sophisticated equipments for geographical surveys. Then, how could it be possible for a villager to write about a bridge inside sea connecting India and Sri Lanka. How can a simple man can imagine such a big structure connecting two countries without having any of these current tools. The most surprising fact is that, the setu described by a common man is being proved by the world’s best geographical survey and satellite surveillance organization, NASA. We should at least pay respect to the author for such a high degree vision.

The most hurting fact about this issue is the attitude of the government and Indraji. I would like to ask both of them, would they have taken the same stand, if this issue was related to the Muslim community. I am sure then, the same bunch of people would have talked about secularism and social welfare and more. I want just one answer, how many letters and editorials, Indraji have written about Shah Bano Case, Authenticity of Mecca Mosque, Aayats of Quran.

Please don’t crush the sentiments of a tolerant and peace-loving community. These acts would make them more impatient and thus rise of fundamentalism. - Ravish Kumar - Sept. 19, 2007

For a pluralistic society like India the mix of religion and politics can be disastrous. And our past is littered with examples of that. Rama Setu controversy is deliberate attempt of a section of our political class to create a controversy where there actually exists none. The inept handling by others is not helping either.

A development project which is for country’s good, being dragged in to an unnecessary controversy is sign of bankruptcy and hollowness of our political class.

Faith and rationality are two spheres of life which more often than not fail to converge. A rational approach, backed by scientific community’s declarations that the Adam’s bridge is basically a coral structure formed over the millennia, would be to let the canal come up which will help ships traveling to India’s east coast avoid traveling all around Sri Lanka.

There is no dearth of real issues in our country for some one to drag fair name of Lord Rama into political controversies.

On the other hand utterances of Mr. Karunanidhi, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu about Lord Rama and Ramayana and Union Govt’s first affidavit and then subsequent retraction are signs of insensitivity and political ineptness respectively. Both needed to be more careful in their words and actions. By conducting them in this manner both are needlessly adding fuel to the controversy and falling to the trap led by Hindutva Brigade. - Abhishek Kumar, Chennai - Sept. 19, 2007

I felt a little uncomfortable when I heard some people in BJP oppose the channel as it is a manmade bridge. However, that appears tiny compared to the govt affidavit questioning the existence of Ram. The provocative comments of Karunanidhi, not once but twice, appears to show some people are more interested to create disharmony than build the channel.

With such action, I am forced to seriously question the attitude of the "secular" forces. To me they are proving to be worse than religious bigots. - Thakur Vikas Sinha - Sept. 20, 2007

The basic difference here between all what has happened till now, (pre and post Independence era) and now that Hindustan is in danger of losing its identity and meaning, at least that's the agenda behind, this is very serious.

If there's no Ram there's no Hindustan. Let me show you how: What's Hinduism? Way of life, dharma, this whole dharma fabric is woven around Shri Ram up to an extent of about 80%. You would find your dharma related to Shri Ram in one way or the other. I would not get into the details, as I know you know it. Does this interpretation work for Hindustanis?

I would not call it conspiracy, politics, or any other excuse. Hindustanis, you are on test of losing even your basic inherent animal instinct to safeguard your identity.

Big question is, how can Hindustan/Hindustanis be lost? Is Hinduism mere a skin deep dharma to Hindustani's and not soul within? - Raj Hun - Sept. 21, 2007

Religion is a matter of faith, not facts. Why stir up a storm and create division amidst communities? Do the intelligent and practical thing, scrap the bridge project and finish the matter. Let all live in peace and harmony.

Rama bless our country. - Dr Sanjeet Kumar, New Jersey - Sept. 21, 2007

Indra jee

Am so sorry that Harvard educated Swamy will not and shouldn't care to respond to you. He has a much bigger canvas to paint and bigger adversaries to fight and respond to. He has to deal with adversaries as strong as the Roman Churchianity empire, Autocratic China (keeps flooding Bihar and Nepal), Osama Laden (keeps sending his agents like Shahabuddin to Katihar, Chapra), Saudi Shiekhs (keep sending petro dollars to keep our Muslim brethrens away from modern education and confined to Madarsas), Sonia Maino (Vatican's plant in India and also receipient of funds from KGB), spineless Manmohan, Harkishan Surjeet (on pay roll of China), Prakash Karat (NDTV Pranay Roy's half brother) and Chinese vast economic-military army. Also our not so friendly neighbour Pakistan and Bangladesh, and Afghan. Wasn't Afghanistan (Kandhar a.k.a. Gandhar) part of India during Mahabharata?

But now that you have chosen to mess up with hornet's nest, may this IIM-A educated Bihari request you again to remain focused on Bihar. And I will not distract this group also with another long mail, but urge you to increase your reading list beyond NCERT and JNU historian books, Do some wider self-education and will be helpful. NCERT books got you to IIT and that was nice. But try reading beyond and will discover some truths and that could have taken you much beyond IIT-KGP or your nice villa in Kolkata.

You are doing a great work for Bihar via your very informative blogs and critical reviews and ideas that you share with Nitish Govt. Please keep doing that and I also promise to remain focused on Bihar on this forum

Let Swamy, his adversaries and their opponents fight it out. We can remain focused on our very own Gautam Buddha, Mahavira, Guru Gobind Singh and Mahaveer Arogya Sansthan efforts of Kunal.

I personally don't like Ram a lot as well. Don't like the treatment that UP wala husband gave to our Bihari Maithil speaking Sita. She didn't need to give "Agni Pariksha" etc ..

This issue of Ram Sethu Samudram to me, is just a symbol of some bigger and very sinister plans and agenda. Won't distract this very very focused group but reply to me personally and will share with you some credible references on the "sinister" designs and plans why they were in so much of a rush to demolish the bridge and why they had to make sure APJ Kalam doesn't become a president rather and have a "criminal murderer, financial scamster" take his place. Try to connect the dots and you will see some threads and if need references then let me know. BTW, Krishna's Dwarka was also a myth till Dr. SR Rao of ASI discovered it and the world knows that it was not a myth. There are many many myths waiting to become part of history, respected Indra Sharma jee. You are much senior to me but may I do this imprudence to ask you? Apne parents se puchchiye ki mera naam "Indra" kyon rakha, "Ravan" kyon nahin?

We Biharis have already paid the price of solving world hunger type issues. From India's freedom movement to JP''s Indira Hatao to recent Mandir/Mandal and all those issues. Let the affluent parts of India (Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu) solve the national and international issues and we Biharis keep our ideological differences to bigger foray.

Why don't we use this crisis as an opportunity to project Bihar's Nalanda, Bodh Gaya, Gaya, Patna Sahib, Pawapuri as world's spiritual capital. Let rest of India work on issues like Sethu Samudram and let the USA deal with Osama and China, let the Denmark, London and rest of EU deal with Osama and gang.

We should remain focused on Bihar and if possible engage with Japan more closely and get some $5-10b investment in Bihar. - Atul Kumar, USA - Sept. 21, 2007 (Edited)

In India if you want to project yourself or your party as secular, forward minded, modern, development oriented etc then the first thing you should target is the Hindus. By humiliating them directly or indirectly (say Ram, Sarwasti, Temples, Kashmiri Pandits etc) you score points and get away easily. Hindus are after all a tolerant community.

Does Karunanidhi have the guts to utter even a single word about any other religion? If he had done so there would have been a fatwa against him and by this time PatnaDaily.Com would have been publishing an obituary. We all know what happened to Pope - don't we? If Pope was literally forced to apologise imagine what would have happened to Mr Karunanidhi.

It's time now for us to debate the meaning of 'secularism'. It's too serious a word to be left in the hands of people like Karunanidhi or the Congress Party. - Dr Pankaj Kr Mishra - Sept. 22, 2007
