Defending
Shahabuddin

How dare
the government of Bihar send my MP, Mr. Mohammad
Shahabuddin to jail? Does not the government
know that he is an invincible person who had the
liberty to possess guns and ammunitions? He
possessed them because killing was his business
and he killed people at impulse. As far as
obtaining the firearms are concerned, he got it
from his people; the ISI of Pakistan who would
help anybody kill Indian people. Moreover,
nobody charged him for such infractions when the
head of his gang was the ruler of the Jungle
Raj. Possession of guns and ammunitions,
kidnapping and killing was not an illegal act
then. Everybody knows that my MP committed the
crimes with the complicity of his protector but
nobody ever dared to point finger at him. I
would argue that if the government at the time
acquiesced to crime, my MP is entitled to
immunity from prosecution. All charges against
him should be withdrawn and judgments voided.
When the government was corrupt and the head of
the government was an accomplice, the
prosecution of one for the same crime without
holding other responsible does not comport with
the doctrine of fairness. It was the fault of
the government that my MP was a criminal. He was
encouraged to be the criminal and he had the
blessings of the government. Why does not the
police go after the leader of the gang, who
supported my MP and let him loose to create
havoc on the people?
As I said, kidnapping, car lifting and murder
was not the crime in the Jungle Raj. If the
previous government sanctioned such criminal
activities, what grounds does the present
government have to prosecute my MP?
Let us suppose that Mr. Shahabuddin either
killed people or have them killed, and engaged
in kidnapping and assaulting the police
officers. What is the big deal? It was the way
of life in Bihar. The government had several
wings to keep itself in power. One wing stole
the money from the treasury, the other used
extortion and killing. To blame my MP for the
work he did for his master is unreasonable in
the civilized society but in the Jungle Raj, it
was a common occurrence.
In defense of my MP, I would say, he became the
killer because he was encouraged to dominate the
people by hook or crook. He chose who to kill
and who to kidnap and he did it with the
immunity provided to him by the ruler of the
Jungle Raj. Of course, he had the guns and the
goons, lots of them at his disposal to carry out
the wishes of the head of the State and he did
it with loyalty and precision. Therefore, where
is the crime when the government is part of that
crime? My MP simply followed the orders of the
government of the time and performed his duty.
Therefore, the present government lacks
jurisdiction to try him.
And, that life imprisonment, it is a farce and
farce is the new sentencing. May I warn the
opponents of my MP that he would use the process
of appeal to exonerate himself, which could take
10 to 15 years? Until then my MP would remain
MP. Did not anyone notice the importance and
influence of my MP when he went to Delhi on the
invitation of the Prime Minster and the
Chairperson of the UPA to save the government?
If he was really a criminal, why did the central
government accord him the privileges? In Delhi,
he saw the Prime Minister and mingled with the
Chairperson of the UPA. They needed him then and
they would need him again. He is the only one in
the district of Siwan who can win the election
without the consent of the voters. He is still
feared who could use the power of intimidation
and force of guns to win the election.
Well Shabu, let the believers of the justice not
bother you. We, the people of the gang, who have
supported you through thick and thin, would
support you come what may. We still have our
firepower, we still have the muscle power and we
are sure that money is not a problem for you. If
you do have the problem with money, we would
kidnap some one for ransom. If we still need the
money, we would have some fake currencies
printed in Pakistan to buy the votes. We would
use the same methodology to get you elected as
we did every time. We would bribe our bodies at
the polling places to stuff the ballot boxes and
we would make the poor and the plebeians so
intoxicated that they would only vote for you.
Do not worry about those male voters; we would
take care of them. We would put fear in them by
killing a few and kidnapping their leaders. You
know those upper caste people; they would come
begging to you if they want to live. We assure
you that we would get you elected. Just hang in
there buddy.

That was tongue in cheek; very funny
if it had not been sad. Reminds me
of an anecdote from yore. One of my
distant relatives car was snatched.
He knew those robbers have
connection at high places. (By the
way, RJD's leader from Samastipur is
absconding since his car-snatching
racket went public). Anyway coming
back to the anecdote, that relative
of mine when could not get any help
from the police, then thought of
visiting the king (Lalu Prasad
Yadav) to complain. When he visited
his residence, he found his car
parked outside the residence. Very
fearful of the consequence, he went
inside, made his problem known and
also mentioned that actually his car
was parked outside his house.
Lalujee remarked: "bachcha log le
aaya hoga, mithai ka paisa de dijiye,
gari le jaiye". Mithai ka paisa
meaning extortion of 2 lakh he had
to pay.
Such is our great leader garib ka
messiha Lalu Prasad Yadav. - Anil
