Just when you thought Indian leadership could not get any worse than what it already is, comes Tirath Singh Rawat, the newest Chief Minister of Uttarkhand who, in less than two weeks of his tenure, had fired yet another head-scratching ‘fact’ when he said America had ruled India for 200 years causing immense damage to the country.
Rawat, who is clearly attempting to outdo other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the race for who deifies Prime Minister Narendra Modi the most and in the shortest period of time, on Sunday released a video in which he says that without Modi, India was doomed as it was the Indian Prime Minister who saved India from the deadly effects of Coronavirus.
As if that was not enough, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, in his zeal to show Modi as a better administrator than those in charge of running the United States of America, said that US had enslaved India for 200 years – a fact that was known only to him until now!
#WATCH "...As opposed to other countries, India is doing better in terms of handling #COVID19 crisis. America, who enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the world, is struggling in current times," says Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat pic.twitter.com/gHa9n33W2O— ANI (@ANI) March 21, 2021
"Compared to other countries, India is doing much better in handling Coronavirus whereas America, that had enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the whole world continues to struggle despite it being the number one in the healthcare field. They have over 50 lakh cases of Coronavirus-related deaths and are once again moving towards a complete lockdown," Rawat said without a moment of hesitation adding who knew what would have happened to India had it not been for Narendra Modi.
A similar gaffe by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi or Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee would have earned the ridicule of Modi diehard supporters with names like ‘Pappu’ once again trending on social network but so far there has been complete silence over this ‘revelation’ by the Uttarakhand CM.
Rawat earlier was widely condemned for his sexist remark on women wearing ‘ripped jeans’ when he said what kind of message women wearing ripped jeans were sending to the children and the society.
“It all starts at home. What we do, our kids follow. A child who is taught the right culture at home, no matter how modern he becomes, will never fail in life," Rawat, who is clearly borrowing a leaf from Yogi Adityanath in his war against the change in Indian culture, said.
