New Delhi: In the aftermath of the induction of Janata Dal – U leader RCP Singh in the Modi’s cabinet, senior party leader and a Nitish acolyte Rajiv Ranjan Singh, commonly known as Lallan Singh, was appointed the new national president of the party.

At the party’s national executive meeting in Delhi under the chairmanship of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RCP Singh handed over his resignation as the party president as the top leadership unanimously elected Lallan Singh as his successor.

Singh expressed his thanks to Kumar and other leaders for giving him a chance to lead the party in the coming days.

“I will do everything to advance the party agenda that includes strengthening it in Bihar and other parts of the country,” he said.

Other leaders were quick to rubbish claims in the media that Singh was elected to coddle the upper caste whose votes Nitish needs badly in the run-up of any future election in the state.

“This is not a caste-related promotion. Lallan Singh is a senior parliamentarian with vast political experience. Currently, there is no better candidate to lead the party and as such, he will have the support of the entire Janata Dal – U leadership and supporters,”
said a JD-U leader in Patna.
